DBA (Disc Brakes Australia)
Disc Brakes Australia - better known by their initials, DBA - are a highly-respected designer and manufacturer of top-quality high-performance disc brake rotors. Over four decades, their commitment to innovation and quality backed by intensive research and development has firmly entrenched DBA as a global player in the technology-driven world of superior disc brake rotor solutions. No matter what you drive - be it a daily-driver, 4WD, commercial vehicle, weekend toy or a track-only weapon - DBA's range of disc brake rotors can truly enhance the stopping power of your car.
DBA - Technology At Work
From the beginning of a disc brake rotor's manufacturing process at the foundry, right through to the final machining regimen, DBA have invested heavily in the know-how and infrastructure to create world-leading products. Their own proprietary cast iron formulation - known as XG-150 - is a carbon-rich creation that, when combined with another of their techniques, Thermal Stability Profiling (TSP), results in extremely strong disc brake rotor castings which possess excellent thermal conductivity properties, just what you want in a disc brake rotor! The final step in production is another area where DBA excel via their use of Cubic Boron Nitriding (CBN), a refining process which leaves the disc brake rotor with a surface finish that is far superior to a conventionally-ground surface found on other rotors.
Superior Ventilation
DBA are perhaps best known for their "Kangaroo Paw" ventilation system. Instead of a series of straight vanes centrally located within each rotor casting, DBA's patented method of using 144 Kangaroo Paw-shaped pillars as the central component of each rotor casting better ensures rotor temperatures stay within optimum range by more efficiently channeling air through the rotor core than straight vanes can. Not only do they enable better ventilation, the Kangaroo Paw pillars also give better support to the friction surfaces of the rotor enabling better performance, strength and stability whilst also providing more thermal mass than a rotor with straight vanes, boosting efficiency and performance even further.
Slots and Cross-Drilling
Although the practice of machining slots into the face of disc brake rotors has been used for years to enable the out-gassing created between brake pad and rotor friction surface places to escape, DBA have taken things further by creating their own slot profiles. 'T2' disc brake rotors feature 32 CNC-machined bi-symetrical curved slots into the face of each rotor, designed to not only improve brake pad out-gassing but also reduce vibration often found in rotors with straight slot designs. The T2 slots are also universal in nature meaning you don't have to purchase "handed" left-and-right-specific rotors any more. Unique to both the Club Spec 4000 and all 5000 Series disc brake rotors, the 'T3' slot design feature an additional 16 slots per rotor over the 'T2' rotors for even better response, pedal feel and efficiency. 'X Gold' disc brake rotors, meanwhile, feature DBA's XS non-directional slot layout combined with a particular cross-drilled pattern that, like the slots, aid in brake cooling and overall performance. Plus they look good, too!
4000 Series Club Spec Road and Race
If your car sees regular race track action, yet still gets driven on the street from time to time, then the 4000 Series Club Spec Road and Race disc brake rotors by DBA are for you. Perhaps the biggest difference between the 4000 Series Club Spec rotors and others are the use of DBA's 'T3' slot profiling and a central aluminium hat structure. Along with 48 of the 'T3' design CNC-machined tri-symetrical curved slots in addition to all of DBA's other innovations - such as the CBN surface finishing, use of Kangaroo Paw ventilation, XG-150 material with TSP material treatment, Thermographic Temperature Monitoring paint markings and paint protection on non-friction surfaces - it is the Aluminium central hat that is perhaps the biggest difference. By equipping the 4000 Series Club Spec disc brake rotors with an Alumalite 6061-T6 heat-treated central hat, it massively improves rotor performance by allowing even disc expansion and lower transfer of heat from the central hat to the car's wheel hub - no more rotor cracking as they cool from high temperatures! The use of an aluminium central hat also reduces unsprung weight boosting performance again.
